Located halfway between Vancouver and Calgary is Trail, one of British Columbia's quintessential and historic small towns and home to Teck Trail Operations, operating for more than 100 years.
Trail is situated in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia by the Columbia River, between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountains, Trail was established in the 1890s after gold was discovered in neighbouring Rossland and a smelter to process the ore was built on the bench above the Columbia River. Soon after that, the town began to boom, welcoming a large influx of Italian immigrants who have shaped and influenced the town's character to this day. A tight-knit community, Trail and neighbouring Rossland are home to some of North America's best biking and hiking trails, fishing spots alongside the Columbia River, the 18-hole Birchbank Golf Course, and world-class downhill and Nordic skiing at the Red Mountain Resort. Trail is also known as B.C.’s number one sports town and home to the broadly supported Junior A hockey team, the Trail Smoke Eaters.
